Interview Susane Colasanti

Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna are living together in New York City the summer before their freshman year of college begins. With no parents, no rules, and an entire city to explore, these three girls are on the verge of the best summer of their lives.
Sadie is a native New Yorker. She is hopeful, romantic, and an eternal optimist who is ready to find her soul mate. Then she meets her dream boy: cute, funny, and quirky in all the right ways. The chemistry between them is unreal. Could he be the one?
Darcy is a free spirit from SoCal with rebellious tendencies and unlimited financial resources. Moving to New York City is just another adventure for her. Darcy wants this summer to be all about boy adventures—nothing serious. But how much fun is too much?
Rosanna leaves Chicago for NYC so she can put her past behind her and reinvent herself. The only thing standing in her way is the grand total of seventy-three cents she has saved. Then she meets a guy who wants to show her the glamorous side of New York—a side that she would never get to experience on her own. If Rosanna doesn't resist, she may find herself in city love.
Told from alternating points of view, City Love captures the moments in each girl's life when everything is thrilling, amazing, and terrifying all at once . . . in a way it will never be again.

Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: April 21st 2015

How was telling City Love from three points of view?

Super fun! I always love writing from more than one point of view. Three previous books I’ve written were told from alternating girl/boy or girl/girl/boy perspectives. City Love is the first time I’m writing from three girls’ perspectives and I’m loving telling the story from these three different angles.

If you only had 73 cents in your pocket, what would you spend it on?

I’d go to this old-school corner shop with vintage candy. Assorted hard candy in bright colors makes me happy.

What is the most romantic place in New York to you? What place in New York is the least known that you love?

The most romantic place is probably Central Park, both for its extraordinary scope and my personal history. As for a secret place hardly anyone knows about, there’s a narrow cobblestone street called Charles Lane I completely adore. I hope the people who live there know how lucky they are!

What was the craziest thing you did on the first trip you took without parents and without rules? What kind of madness will Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna make?

See, this is why I’m having so much fun writing City Love! I’m not much of a rule breaker, but Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna all end up breaking rules in fabulous ways. Enjoying the ride they are taking me on is almost more fun than going out and breaking the rules myself. No spoilers, but let’s just say the City Love girls will be breaking some major rules when it comes to love, self-discovery, and doing the right thing.

What moments of your book and characters have you captured and kept in your mind while writing this novel? What things have these characters taught you?

The City Love girls have taught me to be courageous. They do things I wish I had done, say things I wish I had said, and take big chances on love. The moments closest to my heart are the ones in which each girl reaches a new level of personal enlightenment or extends beyond her comfort zone to help someone else. Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna are each making the world a better place in their own way. They are my heroes.

List an adjective, a song, and a feeling that describes City Love.

Intense, “Empire State of Mind”, hope.

Would you like to add anything else?

My readers freaking rule! You are why I write. Thanks to everyone who has supported City Love. I really hope you are enjoying the series. Much love. xoxo
